Process

A hand-produced portrait presents the subject in a unique way – very different from a photograph. Portraits are a personal process. The artist creates the image according to what they see and observe. One-on-one conversation and interaction between the subject (sitter) and the artist informs these observations in profound ways. A group of more than one subject, ie., couple or family, is welcome. Unfortunately, although we love our fur babies, I ask for no pets.

My process combines an in-person sitting(s) with reference photos.  In this way, I am able to work with both direct information and supporting photos.  If an in-person sitting is not possible, working from photos only is fine.

Discussion about pose, size, medium (pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolour, acrylic) and other compositional elements will help guide me in creating a portrait you will love!

How long does it take to achieve the finished portrait?  It varies according to the scope of work but generally is 4-6 weeks.
